CROWN POINT | During the weekend of October 13 and 14, 12 students from Homann Karate Do here in Crown Point were able to attend and compete at the 2012 Fonseca Cup in Evanston, IL.
There were students from all the surrounding states and as far as Canada. Our students competed in two categories, Kata (traditional demonstration of form) and Kumite (fighting). Of the 12 students, every single one placed bringing home a total of 20 medals. They also, had the rare oppourtunity to participate in two seminars with two american world champions and there are only 3 world champions ever from the United States in the sport of karate. It was a great experience to train with George Kotoka and Elisa Au at such an elite level. George Kotoka is a 2 time world champion and Elisa Au is a 3rd time world champion for the sport of karate. Our students are from Crown Point and the surrounding towns.
On Monday Oct. 22nd, we gathered at the karate school on E. North Street in Crown Point to take a group photo for our own use demonstrating our pride and group awards. If you feel this is community news worthy, please respond to myself or Brett Homann. While being humble and respectful is a trait we honor, excitement and pride from such an outstanding show from our students has us and our community friends beaming.
