CROWN POINT | A Lake County jury awarded $1.65 million Friday to a Crown Point man for injuries suffered in a 2009 accident, a Valparaiso lawyer said.

Kenneth J. Allen said jurors issued the verdict against State Farm Insurance Co. in a dispute over a traffic accident Nov. 7, 2009, at 101st and Mississippi Street in Merrillville. He said his client, Terrance Hektoen, 62, of Crown Point, was struck by another car driven by Sara Oaks, of Crown Point, who had disregarded a stop sign.

He said Hektoen required a total knee replacement. State Farm disputed the extent of Hektoen's injuries.

Lake Superior Court Judge William Davis presided over the trial.
