Calling all superheroes! Big or small, old or young, our littlest superheroes need you. Bring the entire family to the Lake County Fairgrounds, 889 Court St., Crown Point, for a non-timed, non-competitive fun walk/run at 4 p.m. Sept. 14.

The little superheroes will take on a special mission, battling villains along the course, while helping to save the world from pediatric cancer. Villains will appear along the course and for each villain defeated, the superhero will receive a sticker.

Stickers will be returned to the Hall of Heroes to earn a special honor from a city or state official. There will be live entertainment provided by HGS Music, and light refreshments from Carriage Court Pizza.

Cost to participate is $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and younger if registered by Sept. 13. Event day registration is $25 for all ages.

Proceeds benefit the NICK Foundation, which gives hope and support to Northwest Indiana children and their families that are fighting pediatric cancer. To register, visit www.HometownHappenings.net.

Kiwanis Night

Join the Merrillville Breakfast Kiwanis Club for a festive evening from 6 to 9 p.m. July 31 at El Salto Restaurant, 5031 E. U.S. 30, Merrillville.

Ten percent of the proceeds during those hours will be donated to the club, if guests mention they are dining on behalf of the Kiwanis club.

There will be live acoustic entertainment by Derek Stroh.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. Call Dru Bocek at (219) 613-1125 for more information.

Conquer Chiari Walk

The Conquer Chiari Walk Across America will take place Sept. 21 and is a series of coordinated awareness/fundraising walks that are being held across the country on the same day. The purpose is to raise awareness of Chiari Malformation and to raise money for valuable research.

Everyone is invited to participate. A minimum donation of $25 is suggested.

Locally, registration begins at 10 a.m. and the walk begins at noon at Wicker Memorial Park, 2000 Ridge Road, Highland. The walk length is a half-mile up to a 5K, and participants are encouraged to walk at their fitness level.

For more information, call Tina Putnam or Todd Collins at (219) 650-4050. Registration is available online at www.conquerchiari.org. Those who register by Aug. 16 and donate at least $25 will receive an event T-shirt.
