Merrillville Breakfast Kiwanis Club will host its annual Chili & Hot Dog dinner from 4 to 7 p. m. April 17 at Our Lady of Consolation Church Hall, 8303 Taft St., Merrillville.

Crown Point's Office of Special Events is announcing the 2013 farmers market, beginning June 1.
The office is accepting applications from vendors, those offering produce, herbs, meat, dairy, etc.
The cost for the seasonal vendor space is $240.75. and the market will be open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, June 1 through Sept. 29, on South Main Street between Walnut Street and Hack Court.

The Spring Sky
Merrillville Community Planetarium, inside Clifford Pierce Middle School, 199 E. 70th Ave., Merrillville, presents “The Spring Sky,” a public program, from April 12 to 27. The show will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Fridays, April 12, 19, and 26, and Saturdays, April 20 and 27.
As the constellations of winter begin to set in the western sky, the stars of spring and summer are rising in the east. Learn what bright stars and constellations are visible in the spring.
Also, look for Jupiter in the early evening sky and Saturn, which will be visible from dusk to dawn.
Seats should be reserved by calling (219) 650-5486. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children. The planetarium opens for seating 30 minutes before the show begins.
Triathlon turns 30
Northwest Indiana will host the 30th anniversary of Leon’s Triathlon, a nationally broadcasted event, on June 2.
Participants will bike, swim, and run their way through Northwest Indiana while millions of households across the nation watch on Comcast SportsNet. This is an Olympic distance race beginning and ending at Wolf Lake in Hammond, including a .9-mile swim, 24.6-mile biking portion and a 6.2-mile run.
Participants can register through May 5 for $155, or register up until race day for $165. The triathlon will also offer team and relay registration.

Health and Wellness Fair
First Financial Bank, 11890 Broadway, Crown Point, is hosting a free Health and Wellness Exhibit and Fair on from 10 a.m. to noon April 20. At 11, Dr. Biljana Uzelac will speak on “Organic Cooking and Green Living.” There will be door prizes and refreshments.
