Julie Kucek is the new director for the Medical Laboratory Technician program at the University of St. Francis Crown Point.
A certified medical technologist, she graduated from Purdue University in West Lafayette in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in medical technology. She completed her clinical work through Franciscan St. Margaret Health Hammond in 2004 and earned a master’s degree in biology with a focus in microbiology at Purdue University Calumet in 2008. She is a master of business administration degree candidate.
Kucek has worked for Alverno Laboratories for nine years, four of them as a microbiology technologist and another four as department supervisor. During that time, she trained students and employees and assisted with lectures for students. She has also taught as an adjunct faculty member in the Biology Department at Purdue University Calumet.
“Julie comes to the University of St. Francis with experience and enthusiasm to begin a new program and educate a new generation of students in clinical laboratory science,” said USF School of Arts and Sciences Dean Dr. Matt Smith.
“USF is excited about the opportunity this degree offers students in northwest Indiana. Healthcare organizations have an identified need for MLTs, so students have an excellent opportunity to move right into a career upon graduation. Students will receive rigorous preparation as an MLT, and a well-rounded education that will enable them to move on to bachelor’s degrees.”
