CROWN POINT | The Lake County elections board unanimously voted Tuesday to publicly reprimand former Lowell Councilman David Gard for electioneering.
Gard was reprimanded by the board for wearing a campaign T-shirt into a polling location on Election Day. He previously admitted wearing the T-shirt but said he just "ran in to vote and ran out," never intending to electioneer.
Gard, a Democrat who served nearly 12 years as a town councilman, was defeated in November in the general election. He did not attend Tuesday's elections board meeting.
Gard still could face further action by the county elections board for failing to correct his campaign finance reports that omitted an advertisement in a local newspaper. He already paid a $200 fine for the omission and has disbanded his campaign finance committee.
But he still needs to amend the report, according to the board.
The board voted Tuesday to notify Gard about his need to correct the campaign finance report. If Gard does not comply, board Chairman Kevin Smith said there could be further action against Gard.
