CROWN POINT | Board of Supervisors Chairman Kevin Garling welcomed Lake County Council members Eldon Strong and Dan Dernulc, both Republicans, to the annual Legislative/Elected Officials Picnic hosted Oct. 2 by the Lake County Soil and Water Conservation District.

More than 50 guests enjoyed a grilled pork shop dinner and heard a report from district associate supervisor Edgar Corns on budget cuts that led the district to relocate its office and cut its budget.

Corns praised Strong and Dernulc for securing some local funding for the district, and Strong gave a report on the new Lake County income tax which took effect Oct. 1. He pledged to continue fighting to fund the district, calling its conservation efforts "important" to the area.
