Police from 12 agencies participating in a four-week Operation Pull Over blitz in Lake County issued hundreds of tickets and made a number of felony arrests.
The Lake County Traffice Safety Partnership reports 274 tickets were issued for seat belt violations and nine for child restraint violations. There were also 20 misdemeanor driving under the influence arrests and five felony driving under the influence arrests.
Police issued 586 citations for speeding and 407 for various traffic, licensing, and equipment violations. Three citations were issued for texting while driving. Some 45 drivers were arrested for driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction and 52 were cited for driving with a suspended license. There was one habitual traffic violator arrest.
There were 55 criminal misdemeanor arrests and four criminal felony arrests for non-traffic related crimes.
Police departments participating in the sweeps from Feb. 28 to March 23 were Cedar Lake, Crown Point, Dyer, East Chicago, Gary, Griffith, Highland, Hobart, Lowell, Munster, New Chicago, and St. John.
