CROWN POINT | Students at Lake Street Elementary enjoyed making lava lamps as part of Beetlemania Week in Miss Miller's Room. The lamps were made from a recycled water bottle, food coloring, vegetable oil, glitter, and Alka-seltzer.
The students learned a lesson in patience while they anxiously waited for the food coloring to cross the barrier of oil and water. They then enjoyed watching colorful bubbles float to the top of the lamp from the Alka-seltzer. When the lights were turned off, the students lit their lava lamps with flashlights and were fascinated with the results. This is a great sensory friendly activity for kids of all ages.
