CROWN POINT | Since 1983, the Friends of the Crown Point Community Library have supported special programs and helped purchase items not generally covered in the library’s regular operating budget.
The Friends raise funds by collecting membership fees, along with book sales revenues and fundraisers like basket raffles and the Literary Luncheon.
In the last three years, the Friends have donated more than $11,000 to the Crown Point Community Library. The funds cover the cost of special programs like the Teen Volunteer Program, storyteller events such as Grant Fitch’s Not So Spooky Ghost Stories and Gary Morrison’s “Hi, I’m Ernie Pyle,” recent grand opening activities at the new library and the popular summer reading program.
The group also purchases materials for story time crafts, refreshments for events and, more recently, the orange plastic carrying baskets for the Children’s Library and a digital camera for the Communications Department.
Membership is open to all individuals and families who want involvement in the library. Members are encouraged to attend monthly meetings and to actively participate in the book sales, and other events and projects. The membership year begins Jan. 1 and ends Dec. 31. Annual dues are $100 for a Life Membership, $2 for a Senior Membership, $10 for a Family Membership and $5 for an Individual Membership. New officers elected at the December meeting to serve this year include John Cotton, retained as president; Judy Baran, vice president.; Erma Anderson, treasurer; and Bonnie St. John, secretary; as well as Noretta and Jerry Emerson, book sale directors.
Friends meetings alternate monthly between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., with the next meeting set for 10 a.m. Feb. 12 in the library meeting rooms.
