The Friends of the Crown Point Community Library will host a one-day book sale from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the library, 122 N. Main St.
Books, CD’s, DVD’s will be available. Paperback books will cost 25 cents each or 12 for $2.50, hard back books and audio visual materials are 50 cents each or 12 for $5. From 1 to 3 p.m. April 14, everything will be $1 per bag.
Also Saturday, children can Read to the Dogs at the Crown Point Community Library from 2 to 3 p.m. The dogs will be at the Winfield branch, 10645 Randolph St., from 6 to7 p.m. April 18. Children need to register for this program.
Children 2 to 4 can learn about the world at the Little Travelers program from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m. Friday at the Crown Point Community Library. They will travel to Ireland and Spain.
From 3:45 to 4:15 p.m. Friday, children 5 to 9 will enjoy traveling to Spain.
Registration is also required for these programs. Parents may register at the children’s desk on the second floor or online at www.crownpointlibrary.org.
Dog show at fairgrounds
If you enjoyed the AKC National Dog Show on T.V., come out to the fairgrounds next weekend and see a dog show in person.
Steel City Kennel Club will host an AKC Confirmation and Obedience Show from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. both Saturday and April 14. Come early to see a variety of dog breeds.
The show will also include dog product vendors and food vendors for humans.
Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for seniors and children 12 and younger. Only dogs registered for the show will be allowed in the buildings. For more information, call Judy Davis at (219) 365-5046.
Open house at school
Trinity Lutheran School, 250 S. Indiana Ave., Crown Point, will host an open house from 1:30 to 3 p.m. April 14 for interested families. The accredited school is currently accepting new students for the 2013-14 school year.
Breakfast is a blessing
St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1288 S. Indiana Ave., Crown Point, will host its Breakfast and Blessings this month on April 13 and 27. This free breakfast is served from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. for those in need of a hot meal or just some company. A free will donation will be accepted.
NWI Parkinsons Inc. will host an educational symposium April 20 at Avalon Manor, 3550 E. U.S. 30, Hobart. Registration check-in will begin at 8:15 a.m.
Participates will enjoy a continental breakfast, hear guest speakers discuss the latest medications and treatments, memory issues, research, therapy and much more. Designed for Parkinson patients, caregivers, family members and health care professionals, continuing education credits are available for attending. The program will end at 2:30.
