CROWN POINT | The highly anticipated opening of the new Crown Point Community Library is just around the corner. Monday is opening day at 122 N. Main St. and marks the beginning of a two-week celebration with activities for all ages, including a special Grand Opening event from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 28.
The event will begin with a ribbon cutting at 2, followed by refreshments, games, face painting, balloon animals and more in the meeting rooms. Ronald McDonald will welcome children and perform a magic show at 3.

The Crown Point Community Library invites tutors to a special Tea for Tutors from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday.
Learn how the Crown Point Library wants to work together with tutors in the new building, find out what resources are available and learn about the new computer and printing system. Enjoy refreshments and a special tour of the new library.
The Friends of the Crown Point Library invites community members interested in the organization to an informal meet and greet at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Internet Café at the new library. They will serve coffee and pastries, showcase the ongoing book sale and talk about the organization.
The Friends also have planned a bus trip to downtown Chicago on Dec. 5. Tickets cost $20 and go on sale Nov. 1. To reserve a seat, sign up and pay at the Circulation Desk at the library. Make checks payable to the Friends of the CP Library.
The bus will board at 8:45 a.m. and depart promptly at 9 a.m. The bus will depart from Chicago at 4 p.m. and return to the library at approximately 5.

More than 70 guests attended the Friends of the Crown Point Library's first Literary Luncheon on Oct. 13. Following a catered meal by Creative Cuisine, guests heard a special presentation of Haunted Indiana by local author Mark Marimen.
More than just a fundraiser, the event was meant to bring people together to celebrate authors, reading, friendship and the library.
The Friends event committee, chaired by Jane Butkus, worked on every detail of the event, with assistance from Erma Anderson, Judy Baran, John Cotton, Laura Clemons, Noretta and Jerry Emerson, Sharon Kersey, Kate Lodovisi, Donna Selvaggi, Karen Shook and Carla Smoler.
