CROWN POINT | Students from Crown Point High School were among more than 100 high school Latin students and their sponsors from across Indiana who attended the 35th annual Indiana Junior Classical League Fall Latin Day Oct. 13 at Herron High School in Indianapolis.
The Herron High School Actors presented the play "The Greeks in the Beginning" as the main event of the day.
For the second year in a row students attending this year's Fall Latin Day had a chance to build small catapults that were shot off with marshmallows. Evansville Reitz, a new chapter, was first; Fort Wayne Homestead, second; and Indianapolis Brebeuf, third.
Impromptu art featured schools competing against each other with a set of items to include. Brebeuf was first; Homestead, second; and Indianapolis Park Tudor, third.
Janet McNeal, head of Herron High School, spoke of the Latin experience available to students at Herron.
Workshops featured an idea share, publicity, and certamen.
JCL members and sponsors represented Boonville, Crown Point, Evansville Reitz, Fort Wayne Homestead and Brebeuf, Cardinal Ritter, Herron and Park Tudor, all of Indianapolis.
Sponsors of three other schools were present: Brownsburg, Indianapolis St. Richard's and Terre Haute North Vigo.
Student officers in charge of the day, were Michelle Bonahoom of Homestead, president; Greg Frisby of Herron, first vice president; Michael Keller of Crown Point, second vice president; Orion Meier of Boonville, recording secretary; Mary Marshall of Cardinal Ritter, corresponding secretary; Christopher Boerger of Herron, parliamentarian; Sophie Spartz of Park Tudor, editor; and Ahmed Shaaban of Crown Point, webmaster.
Upcoming events include: Jan. 20-26, Indiana Latin Week; Feb. 2, Hoosier Certamen Invitational at Indianapolis Cathedral; Feb. 23m Indiana Certamen Invitational at Fort Wayne Homestead; March 15-16, state convention at Indiana State University; and July 22-27, national convention at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.
