CROWN POINT | Members of the Lone Rangers 4-H Club recently worked together to sew mittens and scarves for local children in need.

With guidance from adult 4-H volunteers Cheryl Petho and Becky Bewick, the young people cut out, pinned, assembled, and sewed fourteen pairs of polar fleece mittens with inside liners and matching scarves. Materials were donated or purchased by the club with funds they had raised.

The finished items were contributed to the “Warm Up Frosty” winter clothing drive coordinated by the Lake County 4-H Junior Leaders.

The club has also organized a food drive to collect items for the Winfield Food Pantry.

Officers of the Lone Rangers 4-H Club include President Taylor Young, Crown Point High School; Vice-President Allison Bewick, Benjamin Franklin Middle School; Secretary Emma Barnes, Beecher High School; Treasurer Alexis Falaney, Crown Point High School; Recreation Leader Morgan Barnes, Beecher Junior High; Safety Officer Eddie Barnes, Beecher Junior High; Inspiration Leader Halie Turich, Col. John Wheeler Middle School; Co-Inspiration Leader Bailey Kien, Lowell High School; and Bulletin Board Officer Meagan Petho, Crown Point High School.

The club meets at the Four Seasons Equestrian Center in Winfield. Members participate in the Lake County 4-H Horse and Pony program and a variety of other 4-H educational projects. Membership is open to all young people in grades K-12.
