CROWN POINT | A Lowell woman died at a Chicago-area trauma center Sunday afternoon following a head-on-collision in Crown Point, officials said.
Charlene Partyka, 48, of the 8000 block of West 174th Avenue in Lowell, was pronounced dead at 3:28 p.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office said.
Lake County sheriff's police were called at 5:35 a.m. to Ind. 55 and 137th Avenue for a report of a head-on collision. Witnesses told police a black 2007 Dodge Nitro driven by a 43-year-old Schererville man was traveling south on Ind. 55 and crossed the center line, striking a blue 2012 Ford Fiesta being driven north by Partyka.
The Schererville man was transported to Franciscan St. Anthony Health hospital in Crown Point. His condition was not immediately known Monday.
Partyka was airlifted to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she later died. An autopsy on Partyka was scheduled Monday, the Cook County medical examiner's office spokesman said.
Lake County police said Monday the accident remained under investigation.
