The Hub Run will begin at 2 p.m. today at the downtown square. This 5K/2K is a CRS Gold Cup Series race. Cost to register today is $25 for all ages.
If you are driving around downtown Crown Point today, remember that a number of streets closed from 1:45 p.m. until the race is over. The square will close at noon. Park only in designated areas; all vehicles parked on the square are subject to being towed to Midnight Blue Towing, 1502 E. North St.
Parents of current Crown Point school eighth-graders are invited to an important information meeting at 6:30 p.m. May 9 in the Crown Point High School Auditorium, 1500 S. Main St., concerning the implementation this fall of bring–your–own device/computer to school.
The meeting is to inform and prepare parents only for their child’s use of a computer device at school, provide purchase/rent options and directions, define the timeline to declare a choice, explain the timeline for student and parent training and orientation, and answer questions.
Group garage sale
Crown Point Classical Association and CPHS Latin Club will host its annual garage sale this week. Hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, at 1360 Hayes St., Crown Point. All proceeds benefit CPHS Latin programs and students.
Congratulations to Jerry Ross Elementary School students for participating in the Power of Poetry Project. These students had their poetry and illustrations published in a book.
Mirjana Vraniskoski, Sarah Frey and Sydney Hernandez received medals and certificates. Honorable mention went to Anna Holloway, Katrina Stevanovic, Camille Mable, Logan Clark, Emma Roberts, Amanda Shefts and Samantha Keppner.

Plant sale at LOFS
Lake of the Four Seasons House and Garden Club will host its annual Plant Sale bat 9 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the LOFS Clubhouse, 1048 N. Lake Shore Drive, rain or shine.
They will offer a variety of hanging baskets, flats and individual trays of annuals and perennials, along with seed and zonal geraniums and cuttings from members’ gardens. The English garden baskets are popular Mother’s Day gifts.

Wax museum event
Eighth-graders at Colonel John Wheeler Middle School, 401 W. Joliet St., will present Bunda’s Historical Museum of Yesteryear - the Wax Museum on May 23. More than 140 costumed students will act out the life and times of their favorite American figure.
Pioneers and military saluted
At Crown Point Christian School, 10550 Park Place, St. John, fourth-graders have been studying early American History, and will portray Abraham Lincoln, Davy Crockett, Laura Ingalls and other famous pioneers in a wax museum from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
