HAMMOND | A 39-year-old man who robbed a Gary bank in 2013 was sentenced Wednesday to nine years in prison, according to court records.
Kevin E. Wilkerson, of Gary and Crown Point, pleaded guilty in December to bank robbery by force or violence, according to court records. He will be placed on three years of supervised release following his time in prison.
He walked into the People's Bank at 1801 25th Ave. on March 18 and slipped a note to the teller stating, "Give me all the money or else. Don't give me the ink or I'll be back. I don't want to hurt anybody but I will," according to a sentencing memorandum.
Police arrested Wilkerson outside the bank.
According to a sentencing memorandum, Wilkerson previously had participated in another bank robbery. His attorney said Wilkerson has struggled with drug use and mental health issues.
