CROWN POINT | A Gary man wanted in connection with a throat-slashing at the East Chicago South Shore station last month is being held at the Lake County Jail, officials said Monday.
Jawaun Woods, 24, was taken into custody by Indianapolis police Dec. 7 after he was stabbed in a dispute at an apartment there. According to Indianapolis police reports, Woods was transported to Wishard Hospital for treatment of multiple stab wounds and transported to the Lake County jail after his release from the hospital.
Early this month, police found the car Woods allegedly stole after the throat-slashing in Indianapolis. Footage of Woods showed him in the Indianapolis area around the time the car was discovered, investigators said.
Woods is charged with attempted murder while committing a robbery and robbery resulting in a serious bodily injury, both Class A felonies, and carjacking, a Class B felony.
A 28-year-old Chicago man suffered a cut to his neck and lacerations on his hand when he was attacked in the men's bathroom at the train station.
The victim parked his car and was waiting for his wife to get off the train when he went into the bathroom, police said.
Woods approached the victim in the bathroom, attacked him and took his keys, wallet and phone.
The victim ran from the bathroom into the parking lot, and Woods got into the man's car and drove away, police said. The man was treated and released from the hospital.
