CROWN POINT | The mother of a four-year-old was arrested on drug charges Saturday after accidentally locking the child in a car outside an Easter egg hunt at the Lake County fairgrounds.
Tairah Moss, 24, of Girard, Ohio, has been charged with possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia, Crown Point Police Chief Pete Land said.
Officers called to the 600 block of South Court Street by Moss smelled suspected marijuana wafting from the vehicle after using a Slim Jim to open the car door, Land said.
Moss told police the smell came from air fresheners in the car to cover up an animal odor left by the previous owner.
A search of the vehicle and a purse turned up a bag of marijuana and a glass pipe with burnt marijuana residue inside, Land said. A total 4.19 grams of marijuana was found, Land said.
Moss admitted they were hers, Land said.
A friend of Moss's who was attending the Easter egg hunt temporarily took custody of the child, Land said.
Moss was released from police custody after posting a $300 cash bond.
