CROWN POINT | The Northwest Indiana House Raffle kicks off its ticket sales with a discount celebration from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Southlake YMCA, 1450 S. Court St., Crown Point.

Tickets will also be sold at the Hammond YMCA, 7322 Southeastern Ave., and the Griffith YMCA, 201 N. Griffith Blvd.

To kick things off, tickets will be offered at a $25 discount, meaning they'll go for $125 instead of the $150 that will be charged after Saturday.

Tickets will also be available by phone by calling the NWI House Raffle Hotline, (219) 663-5810 or toll free at 888-663-5810.

Participants may also buy by mail, but the envelope must be postmarked by Saturday to qualify for the discount.

During the past three years, the House Raffle has sold 2,000 tickets in its kickoff promotion.

General ticket sales begin Monday. Tickets will be sold until Aug. 6. The drawing is at 10 a.m. Aug. 9 at the Marian Education Center at Franciscan St. Anthony Health in Crown Point.

The NWI House Raffle benefits the YMCA - Southlake Branch and St. Jude House. It offers 75 cash prizes and the grand prize winner may choose either a brand new home from participating builders/homes or $225,000 cash.

This year's NWI House Raffle organizers have redistributed the cash prize so there are more large prizes. The grand prize remains the same at $225,000, there are are more $5,000 and $2,000 prizes and the lowest prizes are now $300 compared to $175 prizes in past years.

"We did this in an attempt to create several large cash prizes this year," said Mary E. Govert, Executive Director of St. Jude House.

"As a result of the redistribution of cash prizes, we have received great feedback and ticket buyers are exacted about this year's raffle."

This year's participating house raffle homes will be unveiled in July. The Times Media Co. and the NWI House Raffle will co-host a home tour, which gives ticket buyers and the public a chance to tour participating homes throughout Lake County. The tours are from noon to 6 p.m. July 13 and 14 and July 20 and 22.

Information packets containing tickets have been mailed to previous buyers and are available at all Crossroads YMCA branches — Southlake, Griffith and Hammond.
