A number of Civil War-related Memorial Day weekend activities are being offered with the launch of the South Shore Civil War Memorial Trail.

The trail, spanning Lake and Porter counties, is an initiative to link the region's Civil War veteran graves, architectural icons, museums and other artifacts into a destination for historical tourists, families and school field trips. SATURDAY

• Civil War veteran headstone dedication and South Shore Civil War Memorial Trail launch ceremony, 10:30 a.m., Maplewood Cemetery, Sturdy and Penna Hill roads off U.S. 30, Valparaiso. A historical veteran grave tour will follow.

SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

• Living history re-enactment demonstration, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Old Lake County Courthouse lawn, Crown Point.

MONDAY

• Civil War veteran headstone dedication and South Shore Civil War Memorial Trail launch ceremony, 11:45 a.m., Historic Maplewood Cemetery, 347 Maple Lane, Crown Point. A historical veterans grave tour will follow.

• Living history re-enactment demonstration, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Old Lake County Courthouse lawn, Crown Point.
