CROWN POINT | Brett Crutchfield, head girls softball coach and science teacher at Crown Point High School, was placed on paid leave Friday while the school district investigates allegations of misconduct, a school district official said.

Scott Angel, president of the Crown Point Community School Corp. board, confirmed the investigation but declined to elaborate on the nature of the allegations.

A source at the high school, who asked to remain anonymous because the source wasn't authorized to speak about the matter, said the allegations involve interactions with students.

Crutchfield did not return a telephone call Saturday seeking comment.

Crown Point athletic director Bill Dorulla declined to comment on the allegations.

It is unclear what role, if any, police are playing in the investigation. Officials with city police and the Lake County Sheriff's Department could not be reached Saturday for comment.

Crutchfield teaches integrated chemistry and physics to 10th-graders, according to information published by the Indiana Department of Education.
