CROWN POINT | A man who was struck by a vehicle as he walked in the downtown square Wednesday was flown to an Illinois trauma center for treatment of head injuries, Police Chief Pete Land said.
Roger Kellerman, 42, of Crown Point, was struck while crossing Main Street at the intersection with Joliet Street on the southeast corner of the Crown Point square, Land said.
The driver in the crash, James Koeune III, 18, of Crown Point, was ticketed for driving with a suspended license and failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, Land said.
Police said Koeune was traveling west on Joliet Street and was attempting to turn left on southbound Main Street when the crash occurred about 5 p.m.
Kellerman was taken to Franciscan St. Anthony Health hospital in Crown Point and then flown to a trauma center in Illinois, Land said.
Police investigators closed a portion of Main and Joliet streets for several hours after the crash.
A final state crash report is pending results of the investigation, Land said.
