CROWN POINT | A retail chain specializing in natural and organic pet foods plans to locate a store in Crown Point.
Pet Supplies Plus expects to open a 9,000-square-foot store in early December at Summit Street and Broadway in the Crown Village commercial development, Larry Flaherty, director of franchise development, said.
The store expects to employ between 10 and 20 people, Flaherty said. A $250,000 build-out of existing space in the commercial strip is planned.
The chain featuring lines of pet food made with natural and organic ingredients, pet toys and other supplies operates 280 stores in 23 U.S. states, Flaherty said.
About half the stores are owned by franchisees, including the Crown Point location, Flaherty said. Other nearby locations are in Dyer and Valparaiso.
Executives with the company credit area demographics and high demand for the investment in developing the Northwest Indiana market.
Plans are to add another 250 stores nationwide within the next few years, Flaherty said.
"We're now in a serious growth mode," Flaherty said.
Pet grooming services and an on-site, self-service dog wash are planned for the Crown Point location, Flaherty said.
Crown Village was selected for its visibility from the street and overall placement in the region, Flaherty said.
"The franchisee liked it," Flaherty said. "He's familiar with the Crown Point area and he felt strongly this would be a great location."
