CROWN POINT | Students, their families, and educators gathered recently for the fourth annual Power of Poetry Project Awards at Jerry Ross Elementary School. The Indiana Writers’ Consortium annually partners with elementary schools to recognize young poets’ creativity and talent. Generously funded primarily by the Crown Point Community Foundation and private donors, POPP presents awards to students at the school and regional level. This year three area schools participated: Lake Street Elementary School, Solon Robinson Elementary School and Jerry Ross Elementary School. Depending on their placement at the school and regional levels, 72 students were recognized for their creativity in poetry writing and art with medals, trophies, Amazon gift cards, and certificates.
