CROWN POINT | A service agreement for maintenance of the Crown Point Police Department radio communication system was approved by the Board of Public Works and Safety.
Police Chief Pete Land cautioned the agreement will require changes because of the pending merger of 17 police and fire dispatch centers into one Lake County communications network as mandated by state law.
Changes to the agreement will be addressed as consolidation matters are resolved, Land said.
The agreement approved Thursday with Tri-Electronics includes a $512 monthly fee for maintenance service. The agreement originally was executed in January 2011 at a rate of $297 a month.
The Police Department has sufficient funds budgeted next year to cover the increased cost, Land said.
