CROWN POINT | Patricia Carnahan, Winfield Elementary principal, announced that after 38 years in education she will be retiring at the end of this school year.
Carnahan has been employed by the Crown Point Community School Corporation for the past 11 years. During her tenure at Winfield Elementary, she has served and led with great passion and integrity.
Reading from the grade book on highly effective principals, Dr. Eineman notes, “Mrs. Carnahan earns an 'A' for shaping a vision of academic success for all students; an 'A' for supporting our master teachers; an 'A' for respecting parents and an 'A' for her service to our community.”
Together with dedicated teachers, great students, fantastic staff and extremely supportive parents Winfield Elementary has achieved a lot over the past 11 years. Here are just a few of those accomplishments:
- “Little People, Big Dreams, Bright Futures:" Winfield started off as a K-6 building with over 600 students. Two years later they planned and successfully transitioned into a K-3 building. Little did they know that they would end up a year later with almost 500 students under the age of 9!
- Four STAR School: Teachers, parents and staff joined Carnahan’s call to action and brought academic credibility to Winfield. Together they were recognized as a Four STAR School ranking in the upper 25 percent of schools.
- “A” School: Faculty, staff and parents trusted Carnahan’s belief in Winfield’s mission and promoted the education and welfare of all their children. Together they were designated as an “A” School by the IDOE under the new A-F accountability model, showing strong student growth.
- Average Yearly Progress (AYP): For 10 years Winfield has met the highest IDOE standard of AYP as each child reached their potential.
- Volunteerism: Parents volunteered to help read with students, listen to their stories, to solve their math problems, to trace their hand prints, to paint their gifts, to put up bulletin boards, to copy, laminate and so much more. Winfield soared with parent/family volunteerism at school … almost 5,000 volunteer hours per year.
“I will officially Graduate into Retirement on June 30," Carnahan said. "While all of these years have been memorable, I have been abundantly blessed to have spent the last eleven years as part of the Crown Point/Winfield School Community. This has been a wonderful school community to serve."
