CROWN POINT | City officials gave preliminary approval to the proposed rezone of 130 acres on the city's east side.
Final approval is needed for the measure, which would change zoning on the land to business from its current residential zoning.
Business zoning would permit hotels and other commercial businesses.
The rezone process was placed on the fast track by Mayor David Uran, who said he hopes it will accelerate the possibility of development at the site.
The City Council is next scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. June 4 in City Hall, 101 N. East St., Crown Point.
