CROWN POINT | Face to Face Fine Art Commemorative Expressions will host an introductory Wine and Cheese Celebration from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Crown Point Arts Center, 123 N. Main St.
Face to Face is a nonprofit organization that was founded by portrait artist Anne Jones in 2012.
Jones said the most rewarding portraits she creates "are for people who have lost someone. . .to honor that person's life."
She provides hand-painted portraits of individuals who have passed away "suddenly, unexpectedly or tragically." The goal is to create an artwork that assists in the healing process for grieving family and friends whom these individuals have left behind.
"I have been painting portraits for 41 years; I started at age 12," said Jones in a video available on the Face to Face website. She said she "fell in love with portraits" while taking a class at Indiana University.
"Anne is a very talented artist with decades of experience in creating amazing portraits and a deep understanding of the loss of loved ones through her own personal experiences," said Tony Zdanowicz, a Crown Point businessman who serves on the Face to Face board of directors.
Face to Face does not charge families a fee for the portraits, relying instead on donations from supporters. As a 501 (c) (3) organization, gifts are tax deductible.
The cost for each individual portrait is $500, but donations of any size are welcome. "Any gift makes you a part of our outreach and you become a member of our artistic team," said Jones, whose group welcomes the chance to explain the organization's mission to any civic group that may be interested in making a donation.
"We are very excited and look forward to introducing Face to Face to the Northern Indiana and Chicago area community," Zdanowicz added.
