Scholarships available through community foundation

Crown Point Community Foundation is accepting applications for 2012 scholarships. Applications are available in the guidance department at Crown Point High School, at the foundation office, 115 S. Court St., and at www.crownpointcommunityfoundation.org.

While most scholarships are for Crown Point residents, there are a few open to south Lake County and Porter County residents. A complete list is available online.

Call (219) 662-7252 with any questions. Applications must be in the foundation office by March 16.

Apply for a grant

Crown Point Community Foundation has grant packets available for this grant cycle. Applications need to be in the office by Feb. 1.

Fields of interest which will be considered include: education, health and human services, civic affairs, preservation, conservation, arts and culture. For an application, stop in the foundation office at 115 S. Court St., call (219) 662-7252 or visit www.crownpointcommunityfoundation.org.

Open house and pancakes

St. Mary Catholic Community School will host its Annual Open House on Jan. 29 in conjunction with the school's pancake breakfast. Parents and families interested in learning more about the school are welcome to enjoy pancakes and a tour of the building, and meet staff members, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The school is also offering an evening opportunity to tour the school from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 1.

St. Mary's offers classes from nursery school to grade 8, and currently have space for new students at all grade levels. Parents can visit www.stmarycp.org to learn more about tuition and Indiana's School Choice Voucher program. Call  (219) 663-0676 to receive a certificate for a free pancake breakfast for your family along with a school tour.

Check out the antiques

Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce will host its Antique and Collectibles Show on Feb. 25 and 26 in the Industrial Arts Building at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 889 S. Court St. The show will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Drama in the courtroom

"A Few Good Men," a military drama, will be presented in the courtroom at the Old Lake Court House by the Crown Point Community Theater.

The theater group, in partnership with the Lake Court House Foundation, will present the production at 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and Jan. 27 and 28, and at 3 p.m. Jan. 29. Seating is limited, so advance ticket purchases are recommended.
