CROWN POINT | Solon Robinson Elementary School hosted its annual Science Fair on Feb. 28, 2013 in the school gym, showcasing experiments conducted by students in grades 2 to 5.
Second-grade completed a grade level project and their data was presented for viewing. In grades 3-5, individual student projects were completed at home, and had to be experiments that accurately followed the scientific method.
The children made a hypothesis based on prior knowledge, carried out an experiment multiple times to verify consistent results, and then reported their findings with a project board and oral presentation. In addition, students in grades 4 and 5 wrote a report to explain their results.
After presenting their findings in class, a number of children in grades 4 and 5 were chosen to be evaluated by a team of judges made up of local community members. These judges awarded ribbons based on the quality of the projects.
That evening, the projects were displayed at an open house.
