CROWN POINT | Franciscan St. Anthony Health Crown Point will host a lighted vigil from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the Marian Education Center on campus at 1201 S. Main St. as part of a national campaign to raise awareness for lung cancer.
Crown Point will join more than 90 communities across the nation in hosting a Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil in partnership with Lung Cancer Alliance.
The event is designed to provide hope, support and compassion to the thousands who are diagnosed with lung caner.
The Crown Point vigil will feature expert lung cancer speakers, Drs. Mohamed Farhat, Charles Rebesco and Eias Jweied, as well as a personal story of hope from a survivor and a moment of reflection from the Rev. Tony Janik, hospital chaplain. Light refreshments will be served.
Lung Cancer Alliance and its community partners work to create events to help raise community awareness, advance early detection and research discoveries, support patients and their loved ones and work toward building governmental support.
For this first time this year, a Facebook app, Virtual Vigil app at www.lungcancerstories.org, allows people to upload pictures and share stories of loved ones who have been lost to lung cancer or are still struggling with the disease.
