CROWN POINT | Zoning officials have approved planned changes to more than a dozen signs on a CVS pharmacy at 2272 N. Main St.

The changes were needed to identify the pharmacy as being open 24 hours, and to reflect CVS new branding, said Nancy Long, whose A-1 Expeditors, of Indianapolis, represented the company before the Board of Zoning Appeals on Monday.

Variances permitting the changes were granted by the zoning appeals board in a 5-0 vote. Some existing neon-lit signs on the building will be replaced by LED illuminated signs, including some with 48-inch lettering on the north and east sides of the building.  The words 24 hours will be added to those signs.

Signs advertising the pharmacy chain's in-store clinic also were approved.

Several window signs and all banners in the parking lot will be removed, at the request of zoning board members.

"We don't want you to cover the building with so much signage you can't see the building," board Chairman Dan Rohaley said.

The board also asked that a free-standing sign in front of the building be remodeled to stand on a base rather than the current two steel legs.

"Do something to make it more appealing," Rohaley said.
