CROWN POINT | A first season of Shop Local videos is wrapping up and officials are gearing for a second.
Footage shot earlier this year of two local retail businesses already is appearing on local cable television stations, and a third video is being readied, said Adam Graper, director of the city's Information Technology Department.
The city teamed with Crown Point High School to produce the videos, with help from staff and students in the school's Technical Communications course.
Vignettes featuring Amy Laurie's Eclectic Boutique and Geppetto's Toys and Togs, both in the Crown Point downtown, are appearing now on channels ATT U-Verse 99 and Comcast 26, and online on the Crown Point website, Graper said.
A third, featuring Eclips Family Hair Salon, has been shot and is being reviewed before debuting on TV, Graper said.
Two more are planned before the school year ends.
"We'll start again in fall," said City Councilwoman Carol Drasga, R-5th.
Drasga headed the Shop Local campaign, which was created to encourage a healthy retail sector.
The effort appears to be working, Drasga said.
Owners of Amy Laurie's Eclectic Boutique tracked business related to the Shop Local campaign and counted between 15 and 20 new customers as a result, Drasga said.
"We think it's going to be a real positive outcome," Drasga said.
