CROWN POINT | The Crown Point Police Department was granted permission to buy up to two new squad cars.
The Board of Public Works and Safety agreed to the purchase of a Dodge Charger to replace a squad car damaged in a crash, and to the possible purchase of a second Dodge Charger should enough funding be available.
The replacement squad car from Thomas Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep of Highland was priced at $23,269, the lowest price in the department's recent solicitation request.
The expected insurance settlement toward the replacement vehicle was $10,000, bringing the cost to the city to $13,269. A total $37,501 is in the department's motor vehicle fund.
