CROWN POINT | St. Mary Catholic Community School’s chess team sent 11 members to the Indiana State Chess Championship which was held two weekends ago in Indianapolis.
SMS had an amazing showing this year with 11 students qualifiying and the school was one of the bigger groups. Of the 11 players, seven finished in the top 20 of the state in their categories.
The school had four eighth graders qualify this year, the most it has have ever had, as well as three brothers all qualifying to compete.
