CROWN POINT | “Dance for Dinner” is a program that has run at St. Mary Catholic Community School in Crown Point for four years. The program was developed and continues to run under the direction of Crown Point High School senior and St. Mary’s graduate, Christine Walsh. This year, 25 participants ranging from kindergarten through fourth grade participated. All are members of St. Mary’s school or participants in St. Mary’s Faith Formation program. The dancers were led by Christine Walsh, coached by CPHS dance team members Cassie Bartlett, Lauren Hasse, and Anna Surufka. They danced between weekend CYO basketball games. The group raised $1,100 for God’s Groceries (St. Mary’s Food Pantry), through participation fees, and donations from spectators. The little girls climbed the stands after their dance to collect donations from their spectators. The need this year is high and thankfully, the fans came through with the largest donation so far, enough to purchase a ham for each client at God’s Groceries this Christmas Season.
