CROWN POINT | St. Mary Catholic Community School’s middle school academic team competed in the Knowledge Master Open on April 24. The team placed first in the Diocese of Gary CYO competition and seventh in the state.
The competition consists of 200 questions and is scored by accuracy and speed of answers. The questions are general knowledge questions appropriate for middle school students.
The students practiced after school for nine weeks answering current event quizzes and taking practice tests.
The Knowledge Master Open was designed to stimulate enthusiasm for learning and recognition for academic accomplishment. The contest runs on classrooms computers to allow all students the opportunity to compete in a large academic competition without the expense of traveling to a central site.
Contest results and sample questions are available at www.greatauk.com.
The team is sponsored by teachers Mr. Don Domsich and Mrs. Wanda Feder. Mrs. Feder is retiring at the end of the school year and was very pleased to end the season with the diocesan championship once again.
St. Mary’s is currently accepting applications for new students.
