CROWN POINT | On Jan. 25, 17 students from the St. Mary Catholic Community School’s Environmental club traveled to Starved Rock State Park in Illinois to view the Bald Eagles.
The club members found the Bald eagle viewing during the winter to be an exhilarating and memorable experience.
Wintering eagles begin arriving in December, while concentrations peak in January and February. Most are heading back to their nests by mid-March.
The students felt fortunate to have this opportunity. The club members and sponsors were also honored to be joined by geology professor, Dr. Robert Votow who hiked with the group and helped them notice many of the natural beauties in the park including the famous frozen waterfall in “Wildcat Canyon.”
