CROWN POINT | St. Mary Catholic Community School’s fourth annual Wellness Fair was held in the school gym on April 10.
This event was created by Debra Huber RN, Wellness Coordinator to continue the wellness mission for the students and to stimulate their curiosity regarding living a healthy life style.
The gym was converted into stations of wellness information and health education. Age appropriate presentations were shared with the students from St Mary's School as well as the school’s guests from Trinity Lutheran School, as they visited the presenters throughout the day. Those presenters were Dr. Brett Bologna, Dr Robert Kauffman, Dr Leonard Anglis, Dr Barbara Fluder, Dr Nick Goins, Malinda Nieman from Accelerated Rehab Center, TREK bicycles, FLEETFEET, Jill Myers from Walgreens, Ryan Phelps and Joyce deRolf from Walgreens and the University of St. Francis nursing program.
Students were also invited to bring in their old bikes to receive a $50 gift certificate towards a new TREK bike, donate gently used athletic shoes to FLEETFEET and spare change for the Juvenile Diabetes Association. A drawing for generous gifts for the classrooms were donated by the various presenters.
“My favorite part was Dr. Bologna’s table," fifth grader Caleb Cox said. "I enjoyed learning about teeth and how to keep them healthy.”
