CROWN POINT | St. Mary Catholic School's chess team sent 10 members to the Indiana State Chess Championship, which was held last weekend in Indianapolis.
SMS had an amazing showing this year with 10 students qualifying, and the school was one of the biggest groups. Of the 10 players, seven finished in the top 20 of the state in their categories.
The school had four eighth graders qualify this year - the most the school ever had. Three brothers also qualified to compete.
