CROWN POINT | St. Mary Catholic Community School held its annual Field Day on June 4 under clear blue skies and pleasant temperatures.
For the second year in a row, children from neighboring Avicenna Academy were invited to join the St. Mary’s students with all the outdoor activities. Tricycle races, water balloon toss, potato sack races and the tug-of-war were just a few of the many friendly competitions that occurred during the day.
A highlight for many students was the dunk tank. Volunteer teachers took their turn in the tank as students attempted to douse them. Even Principal Thomas Ruiz sat in the tank only to fall in many times.
A hot dog lunch along with ice cream treats was served to all as the children enjoyed a day of fun and laughter to end the 2012-13 school year.
This year’s event was organized by St. Mary’s physical education teacher Ken Florek and SMS parent Julie Flamini.
