The LakeShore USBC's 18th annual Snow Bowl will be held at 10 p.m. Jan. 11 at Stardust Bowl, 3925 E. U.S. 30, Merrillville.

This is a nine-pin, No-Tap Singles Open Tournament open to men and women. The entry fee is $25 if paid by Saturday and $30 after that day.

By popular demand, Breakfast is Back and will be served after the tournament is completed. For more information, call (219) 942-0432 or visit www.bowlstardust.com.

Employees share the warmth

Methodist Hospital employees from both Gary and Merrillville campuses joined in the spirit of the holidays to hold a holiday food drive and provide gifts to children in need.

Perishable food items were donated to the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana and Angel Tree gifts were donated to The Salvation Army. The gifts were distributed to needy families by the Salvation Army in Gary.

Recycle live Christmas tree

Taltree Arboretum & Gardens will be recycling Christmas trees today through Jan. 12 and converting the trees into trail mulch to benefit guests.

Donated trees must be free of all decorative materials, including ornaments, hooks, tinsel, nails, lights and stands. For the safety of wildlife, removal of these non-organic items, especially tinsel, is extremely important.

Christmas tree drop-off is at Taltree's construction entrance, 440 W. 100 North, Valparaiso. The drop-off area will be marked with a sign, and people are asked to place trees in the designated area only.

Drop-off is available 24 hours a day through Jan. 12, sponsored by Simko Signs in Valparaiso. For more information, visit www.Taltree.org or call (219) 462-0025.

Networking Night and ribbon cutting

Smokey’s Basement BBQ, a new restaurant in Crown Point, hosts a Networking Night from 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 23, with a ribbon cutting scheduled for 5:30 at 220 S. Main St.

Guests will have the opportunity to sample some of the menu items. Smokey’s menu features smoked meats, house-created sauces, craft beer and Journeyman Distillery spirits.
