The Crown Point Community Foundation will begin accepting online scholarship applications Tuesday, marking the first time that the foundation has accepted applications online, and all applicants must apply online.

The scholarship application can be accessed through a link at www.thecpcf.org or their Facebook page, Crown Point Community Foundation.

Thew deadline for applying for scholarships will be noon March 14.

A complete list of available scholarships awards can also be obtained at the foundation website.

Working those beads

Also Tuesday, the Friends of the Crown Point Community Library will host a free Bead Town workshop for children in grades 1 to 12 from 4 to 5 p.m. at the former Crown Point Community Library building, at 214 S. Court St., with artist Stephan Wanger. 

A native of Germany, Wanger is transforming discarded Mardi Gras beads from New Orleans into a work of art, and is in Northwest Indiana for the six-week Mardi Gras season. He is instructing children and adults in using beads to create art work. 

Space is limited, and registration is required. Call (219) 306-8068 or sign up at www.crownpointlibrary.org. Parents are required to stay with children in grades 1 through 5.

Adults can also enjoy making a beaded mask, frame or martini glass with Wanger at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 31 at the former library. Cost is $30. Payment is due at the time of registration at the Crown Point Library Circulation Desk at the new library, 122 N. Main St.

Visit museum exhibit

Southlake YMCA is offering another fabulous bus trip  March 7, heading to The Field Museum in Chicago to enjoy the 120th anniversary of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair.

The exhibit will include the museum’s hidden collection of incredible artifacts never seen before from the Chicago’s World’s Fair. Then travel to Jackson Park to see remnants from the spectacular “White City” and learn about the infamous subject of the book "Devil in the White City."

Also, enjoy eating at Manny’s Deli and Coffee Shop. The bus will leave the YMCA parking lot, 1450 S. Court St., Crown Point, at 8 a.m. and return at 3:30 p.m. Cost is $80. Call Debbie at (219) 663-5810 to reserve a seat.

Pancakes and open house

St. Mary Catholic Community School, 405 E. Joliet St., Crown Point, will host its annual Open House and Pancake Breakfast from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 26.

Have a great meal, the tour the school, meet the faculty and learn more about the St. Mary’s tradition. New students will be accepted next year in all grade levels, preschool through grade 8. To learn more, visit stmarycp.org/school.
