CROWN POINT | Health Care Provider Scholarships worth $1,000 each were awarded last month to four deserving students by the Medical Staff of Franciscan St. Anthony Health Crown Point.
The applicants must come from within the Franciscan St. Anthony primary service area -southern Lake, Porter, northern Jasper and northern Newton counties - and must be enrolling in a health care-related field. To apply, students provide their grade point average, SAT scores, extracurricular activities and work history, and answer a series of questions about why they have chosen their career path, the events in their life that have shaped their decision, and why they deserve the scholarship.
A group of physicians reviewed the applications and chose the winners.
This year’s recipients are Kelli Wagner, of Crown Point, who will be attending Purdue University North Central this fall majoring in nursing; Shelby Schoon, of Wheatfield, who will attend Purdue University in Lafayette this fall with plans to pursue a career in anesthesiology;
Last year’s recipients, who qualified to receive the scholarship for a second year, are Kristin Brumm, of St. John, who is attending IUPUI in Indianapolis with plans to become a physical therapist; and Daniel Peterson, of the St John area, who is attending Butler University enrolled in the pharmacy program.
