St. Jude House vigil

CROWN POINT | St. Jude House holds its annual Candlelight Vigil to kick off Domestic Violence Awareness Month. It's a silent march leaving at 6:30 p.m. from the Lake County Fairgrounds and heading to First United Methodist Church, 352 S. Main St., at 7.



Autumn Harvest gala

LAKE STATION | An Autumn Harvest Celebration runs all day at Belaboo's Play and Discovery Center, 2800 Colorado St., Lake Station. There is a scarecrow stuffing at 11 a.m.; Not So-Spooky Storytime daily at 3 and 6:30 p.m. and Children’s Cooking at noon and 3:45 p.m. Activities are included in the regular admission prices.

Sorority offers fashion show

MERRILLVILLE | Tri Kappa Beta Rho Chapter holds its 32nd annual Evening of Elegance Fashion Show with a Great Gatsby theme from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza, I-65 and U.S. 30. Boutiques open at 5 p.m., dinner at 7, followed by the style show. Tickets are $55 and $65 and can be purchased by calling (219) 746-0963.


Family Fun Fair at church

CROWN POINT | St. Mary Catholic Community School, 405 E. Joliet St., holds its second annual Fall Family Fun Fair  from 5 to 9 p.m. There will be games for all ages, karaoke, food and drinks. A full hog roast dinner is available. Tickets at the door and cost $10 for adults, senior citizens and children 11 and younger pay $6.


Tri-Cities Coin Show on tap

CROWN POINT | The Goodfelllow Coin Club holds its Tri-Cities Coin show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Matthias Church Hall, 101 W. Burrell Drive.

Purdue alumni offer pointers

CROWN POINT |  Purdue Alumni Club of Northwest Indiana hosts a High School Informational Event open to all junior and senior high school students interested in attending Purdue University from 10 a.m. to noon at the Gary Sportsmen Club, 10101 Madison St., Crown Point. Ask questions of PU alumni about their experiences and learn about the two scholarships offered by the club. Light refreshments will be served.

Deaf Services marks 35 years

Oktoberfest heads to Whiting

C.P. Oktoberfest celebrated

CROWN POINT | The city of Crown Point hosts its annual Oktoberfest with live music, beer garden, food vendors, an adult pie-eating contest, children's applesauce-eating contest, hayrides and more. It's from 3 to 11 p.m. on South Main Street in the downtown square.

Fashion show benefits charity

WINFIELD | Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 7667 E. 109th Ave., presents its Fall Fantasy style show from 6 to 10 p.m. in the Joseph V. Murphy Parish Life Center. HAMMOND | Albert's Diamond Jewelers sponsors its 10th annual Auction for MS from noon to 5 p.m. at the Indiana Welcome Center, 7770 Corrine Drive, Hammond. More than 100 baskets and hundreds of items will be available for live auction, from jewelry, sports tickets, vacations, memorabilia, fine wines and premium spirits, to spa and golf packages. Dogs treated to Bark Park fun

LOWELL | The Lowell Parks Department hosts a Barktoberfest from noon to 4 p.m. at Freedom Bark Park, 17105 Cline Ave. Events include a Halloween costume contest, pet blessing, shop with local vendors, rescue organizations, Lake County Sheriff's K-9 Unit, Fetch Portraits (professional pet photographer), and food for purchase. This is an on-leash event.

Walk raises cancer fight funds
