Astronaut talks, signs books

Astronaut Col. Jerry Ross has speech/book signing engagements this week. He'll be at the Crown Point Community Library, 122 N. Main St., from 4 to 7:45 p.m. Monday; at the Lowell Public Library, 1505 E. Commercial Ave., from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday; and back at the Crown Point library from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.



Humane Society hosts soiree

Homebuyer ed workshop set

HAMMOND | The Hammond Housing Authority is hosting a Homebuyer Education Workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Housing Authority office, 1402 173rd St. This class will teach participants about the homebuying process from start to finish. After the completion of this course, participants receive a certificate that may qualify for certain down payment assistance programs. Theater back at old courthouse

CROWN POINT | "Frozen Stiff," a dinner-theater murder mystery, returns to the Old Lake County Courthouse for a weekend performance. Shows are at 7 p.m. tonight and Saturday, with doors opening at 6 p.m. for a social hour. Doors open for the Sunday matinee at noon, with the show at 1 p.m. Tickets are $40 for the dinner and play and available by phone or online at Tables of eight may be reserved. All proceeds go to the Lake Court House Foundation, with a matching grant by the Barbara and Dean White Foundation.

Theater group takes stage

JOHN | The Knights of Columbus offer Mardi Gras with a casino night from 6 p.m. to midnight in the St. John the Evangelist school gym, 9400 Wicker Ave., St. John. The $15 entrance fee includes all-you-can-eat-and-drink salads, hot roast beef, sausage sandwiches, side dishes, desserts, coffee, soft drinks, beer and wine.
