Three Northwest Indiana officials have earned certified municipal officer certification from the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns.
They include Whiting Mayor Joe Stahura, Munster Clerk-Treasurer David Shafer and Crown Point City Council President Andrew Kyres.
The awards were presented during an IACT awards luncheon Oct. 3 in French Lick.
The IACT Municipal Management Institute, which was sponsored by HWC Engineering, was implemented in 2004 to provide innovative, quality education programs to municipal officials in Indiana.
Participants are given the opportunity to sharpen management and leadership skills, learn new techniques for tackling common local issues and also learn how to improve services to residents while working toward certification as an IACT Certified Municipal officer.
After achieving four levels of certification, municipal officials earn designation as an IACT Certified Municipal Official.
