INDIANAPOLIS | Three area schools have been recognized as Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Pennies for Patients schools.

Chesterton Middle School donated $5,660. Solon Robinson Elementary School raised $4,584.17 and Timothy Ball Elementary contributed $4,344.23. Both are in Crown Point.

Students in 525 Indiana schools raised $635,000 during the 2012-13 school year to fund lifesaving blood cancer research and to provide help and hope to thousands of patients and their families through the Pennies for Patients program.

Students spent three weeks during the school year contributing their spare change to raise money for LLS.
