CROWN POINT | A predawn police check Saturday of the Summit Street resulted in the arrests of two men accused of stealing items from a business.
Eddie Grimes, 37, of Crown Point, and Eddie Grimes Jr., 20, of Portage were taken to the Lake County Jail on charges of theft, police said. They were being held on a $500 cash bond.
Police said they spotted the two men at 3 a.m. Saturday in the cab of a truck being driven with its headlights off through a back parking lot of trucking company AMS Motor Services, 1000 E. Summit St.
When questioned about metal items found in the bed of the truck, the men admitted trying to steal items from the business, police said. The men said they'd just loaded the items into the truck when they were spotted, police said.
One the men said he had stolen some of the items from a business in Portage, police said. The Portage business and Portage police were contacted by Crown Point police.
Police recovered the property, valued at about $1,350, for return to the owners.
Chief Pete Land said police are providing extra patrols of the Summit Street area.
